HASTINGS, New Zealand, Mar 4, 2016–John Thompson and JHT Antonello captured the Horse of the Year CDI3* Grand Prix Special Saturday in his bid to challenge Julie Brougham and Vom Feinsten for the single place awarded New Zealand at the summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
John and the New Zealand-bred 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding were awarded 69.896 per cent for a narrow win over Wendi Williamson on Dejavu MH second on 69.854 and Abbie Deken on K H Ambrose third on 69.083 per cent.
Julie Brougham and Vom Feinsten were fourth on 68.938 per cent a day after winning the Grand with 70.745 per cent that the show organizer reported was a New Zealand record.
She plans to take Vom Feinsten fly to Europe to be based with Ton de Ridder in Aachen, Germany.
The combination won the 2015 Dressage Horse of the Year title.
