WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 7, 2016–The top 10 money winners have earned almost a quarter million dollars in the first five CDIs with two to go at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival.
Two Danish team riders and a Spanish teenager all living full-time in Wellington, have taken home 42 per cent or $100,000 of the total for the top 10 riders that includes five Americans and Olympians from Sweden and Canada, according to calculations by dressage-news.com.
Mikala Gundersen and Lars Petersen, team riders for Denmark but both long-time residents of Wellington, fill the top two spots with $48,860 and $35,155, respectively, earned so far.
The two have been the biggest prize money winners since the Global circuit was founded at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center five years ago.
Juan Matute, Jr., the 18-year-old son of three-time Spanish Olympian Juan Matute and 2015 European Championships Junior Freestyle gold medal winner, has won $16,220 for ninth place on the prize money list so far this season competing horses at Young Rider, Under-25 and Small and Big Tours.
The top U.S. money winners are Shelly Francis of Loxahatchee, Florida in third place on $24,980, Steffen Peters of San Diego, California in fourth on $24,980, U.S. Grand Prix Champion Laura Graves taking sixth with $20,100, Kasey Perry-Glass who moved to Florida from California is ranked seventh on $17,520 and Lisa Wilcox of Wellington rounding out the top 10 with $12,700.
Sweden’s six-time Olympian Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfvén has won $22,970 for fifth place while Belinda Trussell, at the top of Canadian Olympic rankings, has won $16,300 to stand eighth.
