DUBLIN, June 10, 2016–Horse Sport Ireland announced Friday it will nominate Judy Reynolds and Vancouver K to represent Ireland at the 2016 summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August.
This will be the first Olympics for Judy, who celebrates her 35th birthday Saturday, but she competed the 14-year-old KWPN gelding for Ireland at the 2014 World Games in Normandy, the 2015 European Championships in Aachen, Germany and the World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden last April.
“Judy has continuously gone out and broken Irish records in her bid to secure a place for Ireland at the Rio Olympics,” said Kevin McGuinness, chairman of Horse Sport Ireland's Dressage High Performance Committee. “In the process she has raised the profile of dressage in Ireland, competing against the best in the world. Judy and Vancouver K will travel to Rio on the strength of some outstanding performances and we wish her every success.”
Judy and Vancouver K began competing at international Small Tour in 2012 and moved up to CDI Grand Prix in May 2014.
In nine starts this year the pair, ranked No. 28 in the world, has finished in the top three on four occasions including a victory at the Achleiten, Austria CDI4* Grand Prix last week.
Judy also competed at the 2006 and 2010 World Games and the 2007 and 2011 European Championships on other horses.
