SÃO PAULO, Brazil, June 3, 2016–Three more horse and rider combination earned qualifying scores at the Hipica Paulista CDI3* Grand Prix Friday that was the last competition before the nation hosts the Olympic Games in two months.

The winner was 18-year-old Giovana Pass on Zingaro de LYW, a 12-year-old Spanish-bred Lusitano stallion that scored 67.960 per cent.

Sarah Waddell, on last year's Pan American Games bronze medal team, was second on Quixote Arco Polo Z with a score of 66.400 per cent.

The 2008 Olympic rider Leandro Aparecido da Silva on Dicaprio was third 65.880 per cent.

The Brazil-based riders and a sizeable group competing in Europe are vying for the four places on the country's team. Among those in Europe are four members of the Tavares de Almeida family–twins Pedro and Manuel and sisters Luiza, a two-time Olympian, and Thaisa. João Victor Oliva, the current South American champion and on the 2015 Pan Am Games team, is also in Europe and is atop the rankings.

For Giovana, the ride Friday was “mission accomplished” in seeking to be on the team.

“I thought of all my Grand Prix this was the best,” she said.
