WERRIBEE, Australia, Dec. 11, 2015–Mary Hanna and Umbro won the World Cup League Final Grand Prix Friday ahead of the Freestyle to determine the combination to represent Australia at the Final in Gothenburg, Sweden in March.
Mary and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding scored 69.260 per cent for the victory that was the ninth this year, after only a single win in the previous four years of Big Tour competition for the pair.
Breet Parbery and DP Weltmieser placed second on 68.340 per cent with Caroline Wagner on Tango V third on 65.700 per cent.
The Freestyle that will determine the winner of the World Cup Pacific League will be held Saturday.
The Pacific League of Australia and New Zealand is the only one of the four geographic regions–Western Europe, Central Europe and North America are the others–that has a league final to select its representative for the Final of the annual global championship. The other three leagues are decided by points for placings in qualifying competitions or average scores.
Mary Hanna has never competed Umbro on an Australian team in five years competing in Australia and Europe, but on other horses has ridden in four Olympics, three World Games and two World Cup Finals.
