FRANKFURT, Germany, Dec. 18, 2015–Anabel Balkenhol wrapped up more than six years of Big Tour competition on Dablino FRH with a victory in the CDI4* Christmas Grand Prix Friday and a German sweep of the top three placings.
The German Olympic and World Games team partnership of Anabel and the Hanoverian gelding that will turn 16 years old next month, scored 75.380 per cent for the win, the third in nine starts this year.
Beatrice Buchwald on Weihegold OLD, a 10-year-old Oldenburg mare, placed second on 73.300 per cent in only the fourth CDI Grand Prix since starting Big Tour in September, the last four all victories before this event.
German team veteran Hubertus Schmidt on Imperio was third on 72.980 per cent.
Anabel, daughter of German Olympic gold medal rider Klaus Balkenhol and the coach of the United States team for eight years, and Dablino (De Niro x Wanderbursch II) performed their first international Grand Prix in November, 2009.
The pair competed on the German team at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
