STOCKHOLM, Nov. 29, 2015–Hans Peter Minderhoud rode Glock’s Flirt to a personal best score of 80.950 per cent and the first Freestyle victory for the Dutch partnership to capture the Sweden International World Cup Grand Prix musical performance Sunday.
Sweden’s Olympic combination of Patrik Kittel and Watermill Scandic were runner up on 79.100 per cent while former world No. 1 and two-time World Cup champions Adelinde Cornelissen on Jerich Parzival were third on 78.775 per cent for their first Freestyle score below 80 per cent in six years.
Patrik Kittel moved to the top of the World Cup Western European League standings with 54 points after their runner up placing in Sunday’s Freestyle that was the fourth in nine WEL qualifying competitions for the Final in Gothenburg, Sweden next March.
Patrik said that Scandic at 16 years of age “feels better than he did when he was 10, which is great! And he will still be in the game next year too, and in the Final in Gothenburg if we qualify.”
Fabienne Lütkemeier moved up to fourth and the highest placed from Germany while Hans Peter’s victory moved him up into the seventh spot. Denmark’s Agnete Kirk Thinggaard was tied in eighth place with 28 points, Jennie Larsson of Sweden 10th on 27 and Australia’s Lyndal Oatley in 11th on 26 points.
The previous best Freestyle result for Hans Peter and Flirt, that have been competing together for less than 18 months and are ranked No. 13 in the world, was 80.450 per cent posted at Rotterdam in June. This was the first competition for Hans Peter and the 14-year-old Swiss Warmblood gelding since then.
“He had no real weak points in his test today,” he said, “from the beginning to the end he was completely with me, nicely supple and super on the aids. I had a great feeling, he was really trying for me but I had a small mistake in the one-tempis. I re-did them really well though, and the rest of the test was really good.”
Hans Peter said he had been encouraged by the sight of the winner’s prize. “When I saw the orange car in the corner of the arena I thought, ‘Hey, a Dutch person should win that!’… and this is the first car I’ve ever won!”
Adelinde was competing the 18-year-old Parzival–to be officially 19 years old in a month–for only the second time this year. Adelinde and Parzival, at No. 378 in the world, last scored below 80 per cent in a Freestyle in December, 2009. Since then, however, the pair have performed in 36 Freestyles all with scores above 80 per cent.

The 36-year-old Dutch rider said afterwards that she had “mixed feelings” about her result.
“I’m happy that Parzival was here and going well,” she said. “He was great in the warm-up but he felt a bit tired in the arena. We have not been competing for a long time, so we need to find a suitable routine again for both of us.”
For Lyndal Oatley and Sandro Boy who placed sixth in the Freestyle, their score of 75.425 per cent was below their personal best but close to this year’s top result and came a day after the German-based combination posted the highest Grand Prix score ever by an Australian rider.
