Canada's Karen Pavicic & Don Daiquiri Win International Omaha CDI4* Grand Prix, Test Event for 2017 World Cup Final

OMAHA, Nebraska, May 5, 2016–Karen Pavicic and Don Daiquiri won the inaugural International Omaha CDI4* Grand Prix Thursday night to kick off the test event for the 2017 World Cup Finals of dressage and jumping in this American Midwest city of can-do attitudes and welcoming friendliness.


The spectacular CenturyLink Center that is a major convention venue and also home to Creighton University basketball team has been converted for the dressage and jumping test event with no expense spared to bring in two European judges and a Canadian to join two Americans for the nine combinations that shared the $10,000 Grand Prix purse.


The Canadian 2014 World Games team combination scored 67.800 per cent for the win before a crowd of about 1,000 fans. The Freestyle Friday night is expected to draw about 5,000 spectators.

Jacqueline Brooks and D Niro, on Canada's 2012 Olympic team and at the 2013 World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden, placed second. Katie Poag John's Island, South Carolina on Zonnekoning was third on 64.640 per cent.


“I'm thrilled to be here–it's a great venue and a great atmosphere,” said Karen who made a costly  error of course on the 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding on which is also a contender for one of the two individual places for Canada at the summer Olympic Games.


The atmosphere was so electric that Thomas Baur, dressage sport director for the event, said that ar next year's World Cup Final dressage horses and riders will be provided with two days of training in the competition arena ahead of the Grand Prix.
