WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 10, 2016–The winter long Adequan Global Dressage Festival that could arguably be the most intensive circuit to qualify for the Olympic Games gets underway Thursday with 43 horses and riders from 15 nations entered in the World Cup Grand Prix.

The Big Tour will be the first of seven Olympic qualifiers in Florida before the Mar. 6 qualifying deadline for individuals to fill 16 slots still left from the total of 60 dressage places in Rio de Janeiro of which 44 have already been allocated for 10 teams and four individuals.

The United States that has qualified a team along with host Brazil, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Australia, France, Sweden, Spain and Japan will be looking to select combinations to go to Europe in spring to pick the final squad for Rio for the dressage competition in August.

Laura Graves on Verdades, the 2015 U.S. Grand Prix Championship pair, lead off a strong American lineup as she also seeks to go to the World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden in March. Jan Ebeling, the 2012 Olympic rider, has moved from California to Florida to compete Rassolini that he worked with German coach Johnny Hilberath last summer.

Canadians are faced with two deadlines–Mar. 6 to try to qualify two more individuals to the one already earned at the Pan American Games last summer so as to be able to field a team at the Olympics and to earn the right to fill however many places they receive. Pan Am silver medal team combination of Brittany Fraser and All In, 2012 Olympic partnership of David Marcus and Chrevi's Capital and Jacqueline Brooks and D Niro are in the lineup of Canadians.

Mikala Gundersen on My Lady and Lars Petersen on Mariett, two Florida-based Danish team combinations, will be competing for scores that with their compatriots in Europe could give them a full complement of four horses and riders to make up a team in Rio.

Looking to move along the road to Rio is the Florida-based Kelly Layne on Udon P that wants to join fellow Australians in Europe for their selection shows.

Luis Reteguiz Denizard of Puerto Rico has moved his continental championship mount Royal Affair up to Grand Prix with an eye on Rio while the Dominican Republic’s Yvonne Losos de Muñiz has entered two horses in looking to consolidate her lead in the South American geographic group.

The Philippines' Ellesse Tzinberg will ride Pavarotti in her first Florida appearance.

Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven will compete Don Auriello for the first time since the European Championships last August as the Swedish team rider prepares for her seventh Olympic Games.
