Wim Ernes, the former coach of the Netherlands dressage team and a top judge respected around the world, has died at the age of 58.
Wim was coach of the Dutch team that won silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games but gave it up to devote himself to involvement with the KWPN, the Dutch breeding organization, and judging.
He resumed his coaching post in 2012 that climaxed with the Netherlands team taking gold at the European Championships in 2015.
Late last year, he was found to have an inoperable brain tumor and was hospitalized after a seizure.
Earlier this week, he was awarded the gold KNHS (Dutch federation) pin as a token of appreciation for contribution to Dutch equestrian sport.
